The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body. It branches from the lower back down both legs and branches again above the knee. From the knee it stirrups around the heel. Sciatica is an inflammation of the sciatic nerve, usually marked by pain and tenderness along the course of the nerve through the thigh and leg.
