Jasmine

Jasmine garlands are part of Buddhist ceremonies to symbolize respect...

Jasminum officinale

Note: Base

Parts Used: flower blossoms

Source: solvent extraction of the night-scented flowers of the evergreen climber native to China, northern India and western Asia. Most of the oil is produced in Egypt and France. Jasmine concrete is produced by solvent extraction; the absolute is obtained from the concrete by separation with alcohol; an essential oil is produced by steam distillation of the absolute.

Description and Odor Effect: the absolute is a dark orange-brown, viscous liquid with an intensely rich, warm, floral scent and a tealike undertone. The fragrance improves as the oil ages. The odor effect is warming, uplifting and a reputed aphrodisiac.

Nature: warming, balancing

Blends well with: rose, sandalwood, clary sage, all citrus oils

Physical Uses: Jasmine is used for dry, greasy, irritated, sensitive skin. It relieves muscular spasms and discomfort from sprains. Jasmine is an expectorant and treats catarrh, coughs, hoarseness and laryngitis. It has a balancing effect on the female reproductive system; assisting with cramps, painful menstruation, frigidity, labour pains and uterine disorders.

Mental and Emotional Uses: The uplifting scent of jasmine produces a feeling of optimism, confidence and euphoria. It is most useful in cases where there is apathy, indifference or listlessness. It is effective for the treatment of depression, nervous exhaustion and stress related conditions.

Therapeutic Properties: analgesic, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antistress, aphrodisiac, calmative, carminative, cicatrizant, decongestant, emollient, euphoriant, expectorant, galactagogue, moisturizer (skin), rejuvenator (skin), sedative, stimulant (uterine contractions), tonic (female reproductive system), uplifting

Applications: application, aroma lamp, bath, fragrancing, lightbulb ring, massage, mist spray

Keyword:  Aphrodisiac

Did you know... Jasmine flowers must be picked by hand before the sun becomes hot on the very first day they open; 8 million handpicked jasmine blossoms are required to produce 1 ½ litres of oil.

Jasmine Magic: Jasmine will attract a spiritual (as opposed to a physical ) love.

The flowers will also draw wealth and money if carried, burned or worn.

Balanced Blend

For a balanced massage blend, combine the essential oil drops in these proportions of essential oil "notes":

  • 3 drops Base Note
  • 7 drops Middle Note
  • 5 drops Top Note

For a total of 15 drops of essential oils per 30ml (1 oz) of carrier oil.

Top Notes

Top notes are the first impression of the blend; short-lived, yet brilliant. Top notes are sharp, penetrating, first to evaporate, extreme, and either hot or cold. Top notes provide the "ahhhh" in a blend.

Middle Notes

Middle notes give body to blends - the developing phase with breadth and variety. Middle notes are warm, round, soft and mellow. Middle notes often provide the bulk, 50% to 80%, of the blend.

Base Notes

Base Notes are the final, lasting message of the blend; they deepen your blend and draw it into the skin, giving it roots and permanence. Base notes are deep, intense, rich and sensual. Base notes should be used sparingly, about 5%, so as not to overpower the blend.
