Parts Used: leaves and flowering tops

Source: steam distillation from the leaves and flowering tops of the perennial, almost evergreen sub-shrub that grows up to 60 cm in height. It is native to the Mediterranean region and temperate Asia.

Description and Odor Effect: colorless to pale yellowy-green liquid with a sweet, camphoraceous top note and a warm spicy-herbaceous undertone.

Nature: uplifting, soothing

Blends well with: lavender, rosemary, myrtle, bay leaf, sage, clary sage, geranium and citrus oils

Physical Uses: Hyssop can be applied on the skin for the treatment of bruises, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, wounds, inflammation and rheumatism. Hyssop balances low or high blood pressure. The vapors of hyssop open the sinus and breathing passages and ease congestion; it can be used for asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, cough, sore throat, tonsillitis, whooping cough, colds and influenza. It is a stomachic; helpful for bouts of colic and indigestion. For females it is used to treat amenorrhoea (absence of menses) and leucorrhoea (a discharge resulting from inflammation or irritation of the membrane lining the genital organs of the female).

Mental and Emotional Uses: The strong fragrance of hyssop is mood uplifting; it alleviates anxiety, fatigue, nervous tension and stress-related conditions.

Caution: Avoid during pregnancy. Hyssop should be avoided by people prone to epilepsy. Use small amounts.
